Release notes
Videorc 0.9.8 Beta 1
First launch now just collects the macOS permissions Videorc needs — and skips itself entirely if you already granted them. 4K recording is free on every tier, and the camera circle is a true circle again.
Onboarding that only asks for permissions, 4K recording for everyone
- New first launch — one screen that collects Screen Recording, Camera, and Microphone permissions, with live status and native macOS prompts.
- Already granted everything? Onboarding never appears, reinstalls included.
- 4K recording is now free on every tier — 4K streaming stays Premium.
- The Circle camera bubble is perfectly round again in the preview (it could render slightly oval).
Onboarding is now just permissions
The old first-run tour (workflow choice, checklists, acknowledgments) is gone. On first launch Videorc now shows one thing: the three macOS permissions it can use — Screen Recording, Camera, and Microphone — each with a live status chip and a button that asks macOS right there. Camera and microphone prompt in place; Screen Recording jumps you to the exact System Settings pane and the chip flips green the moment you grant it.
Nothing is required: grant what you need and continue. And if your Mac already has the grants — including after a reinstall — onboarding never appears at all. You can reopen it any time from Settings → System access → Set up permissions.
4K recording, free
Recording at 4K is no longer a Premium feature — every tier can record at full 4K. Streaming at 4K remains Premium.
Fixes
- The Circle camera bubble now stays perfectly round in the native preview. It could render as a slight oval when the preview's proportions drifted from the output's; the preview now matches the recording exactly.
